Cocktails & Moody Bars

Athens has earned a reputation as a serious cocktail city, with several of its bars consistently ranked among the best in the world. I’ve tasted some of the most creative and unexpected cocktails here, from drinks infused with local herbs to daring flavour combinations you won’t expect to find anywhere else. You will drink impeccably crafted cocktails, top-tier bartenders and a vibe that blends old-world charm with modern creativity.

The Clumsies

Can you really say you've been to Athens if you haven't stopped at The Clumsies for a drink? A staple in Athens, The Clumsies has consistently ranked among the World's 50 Best Bars. Even Gordon Ramsay with Gino and Fred did an episode of their show here. It has the creative cocktail menu and it’s such a cool spot. We always take family and friends here when we come to Athens. The cocktail list is so impressive and like I said creative and if you are like me and want one of everything, their cocktail paddle is a hit - it features four half-sized cocktails, perfect for trying out different ones.

What to order: The Greek Salad cocktail (trust me on this one) the reason I go back again and again, the Aegean Negroni is an award winner (a little too strong for me) and any of their signature creations - the bartenders know their craft. Their signature cocktails are a must-try, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Let the bartenders guide you!

Baba au Rum

A world-renowned rum bar with old-school charm, this is a must-visit and we were lucky it is a block from our hotel. With over 400 rums from around the world, it’s no surprise that Baba au Rum has earned a spot on The World’s 50 Best Bars list multiple times. I love coming here—not just for the drinks, but for the experience of watching the bartenders work. The way they mix, shake and pour with such precision is almost as much fun as drinking the cocktails themselves. Whatever you order it will feel and taste like a little masterpiece.

What to order: Try one of their rum-based creations, especially the daiquiris and tiki-inspired cocktails.

Brettos

One of the most iconic bars in Athens, Brettos is the oldest distillery in the city, with its colourful bottles lining the walls and an incredible selection of house-made liqueurs. It’s cozy, full of history and a must-visit for a relaxed evening sipping ouzo or rakomelo. Order the mastiha with ice, it is delicious, my go-to drink when I visit! They also have a great cocktail list as well.

What to order: Their homemade liqueurs are fantastic, especially the mastiha and rakomelo. A glass of Greek wine is also a great option.
