Shopping in Athens – Where to Find the Best of Everything

Athens is a shopper’s dream - a mix of high-end luxury, independent Greek designers, artisanal finds and some of the best natural beauty products in the world. Whether you’re after a statement piece from a Greek designer, the perfect pair of handmade leather sandals, or stylish concept stores, Athens has something for every taste (and budget).

Where to Shop in Athens

Ermou Street - Syntagma to Monastiraki
This pedestrian shopping street is the busiest in Athens, packed with everything from Zara ( & Massimo Dutti which I love!) and Sephora to beloved Greek brands like Korres (a must for natural beauty lovers). Fun fact: Ermou has one of the highest concentrations of shoe stores per square meter in the world, making it absolute heaven for shoe lovers.

Attica Department Store - Syntagma Square
If you’re short on time, Attica is the one-stop shop for both international luxury brands and local Greek designers. I always check out Zeus+Dione’s latest collection here and I have found some pretty special Missoni pieces here as well. They have a great cosmetic section on the ground floor as well, with great sales.

Voukourestiou Street - Syntagma/Kolonaki
Think Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Gucci, Prada - but in a far more relaxed, elegant setting than in other European capitals. Some collections here are exclusive to Greece and I’ve even found pieces here that were sold out in other countries. Worth a visit if you love designer fashion!

Kolonaki - Kolonaki Square & Surrounding Streets
Kolonaki is the most upscale and stylish shopping district in Athens. This is where I go to find unique pieces from Greek designers, browse high-end fashion and discover new concept stores. Even if you’re not shopping, just wandering around the pretty streets here window shopping is wonderful. Some personal favourites:

  • Luisa World – A beautifully curated boutique with Miu Miu, Valentino, Bottega Veneta and many other brands for shoes, bags, clothes and accessories.

  • Deux Hommes & Yiorgos Eleftheriades – Perfect if you love avant-garde yet wearable pieces.

  • Zeus+Dione – The ultimate in Greek fashion, merging ancient heritage with modern design.

  • Callista Crafts – Handmade leather bags that blend tradition with contemporary style.

Naxos Apothecary - Kolonaki
A stunning, modern apothecary inspired by Greek botanicals and island traditions. Think locally made skincare, herbal remedies and fragrances that transport you straight to the Greek isles. One of my favourite stops for gifts (and for myself!), also if they offer you a loukoumi (turkish delight) be sure to take it, they are delicious.

The Real House of Korres - Ermou Street
Korres is a Greek beauty institution and their flagship store is an experience in itself. Everything is based on Greek herbs and natural ingredients, from their iconic Wild Rose face cream to their fig-scented body oils (which I stock up on every visit!) to their incredible fresh fragrance. This is a must for skin care lovers.

Handmade Sandals & Leather Goods - Monastiraki & Plaka
You can’t leave Athens without a pair of handmade leather sandals. Melissinos Art - The Poet Sandal Maker is the most famous, having crafted shoes for Jackie O and The Beatles. For softer, contemporary designs, check out Sandalia Sti Stoa in Monastiraki. These places have been here for decades because they make timeless, custom, simple sandals

Local Artisan Markets - Monastiraki & Plaka
Monastiraki Flea Market is where you’ll find everything - vintage treasures, antique coins, handcrafted jewellery and beautiful Greek ceramics. Plaka also has charming hidden boutiques where you can pick up hand-painted plates, olive wood utensils and evil eye charms.
