Apostolis Taverna - Naxos Town
You can’t miss Apostolis.
First for the colourful lampshades hanging over the taverna. Then for the yellow bike perched on the balcony out front. It’s pretty as and always ends up in photos. After that, it’s all about the food.
Apostolis is a well-known taverna in Naxos Town and one I return to every time I’m on the island. It’s also one of the many places included in my Naxos Guide.
Apostolis is busy most nights and has been for years. I’ve been coming here since 2019. Locals, visitors, families, big tables, small tables. It fills up quickly and the energy builds as the night goes on. It can feel a bit chaotic at peak time, but that’s part of it. Your food arrives in good time, they bring out a little treat to start and your evening begins. It’s casual, loud, social and very Naxos.
One of the best things I’ve eaten in Naxos is from here. The nut-coated Naxian graviera, fried and served with cherry tomato spoon sweet (γλυκό ντομάτας). I ordered it once and went back the next night just to have it again. Since then, I order it every time.
Servings are generous. They don’t believe in portion control, so don’t over-order. You can always add more as the meal goes on.
You just have to order the Greek salad. It’s served in cob bread so the olive oil, tomato and salad juices soak straight in. The Naxian loaded potatoes are another must. Fried potatoes topped with grated Naxian graviera. You’ll notice a theme here. The Naxian cheese is really good.
Other notable mentions are the dolmades with avgolemono and the grilled chicken.
Apostolis is always busy, especially in summer. It’s popular, so booking ahead is a good idea. It’s become more popular over the years, but it’s still kept its charm.
It’s a good spot for groups and long dinners. Order a few things, share and add more as you go. You’re not rushed, which makes it easy to relax. It’s also well placed for a slow stroll through the old part of Naxos Town after dinner.
I include Apostolis in my Naxos Guide because it’s reliable. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s one of the places I still look forward to returning to when I’m back on the island.
